HOUSING

Mission: To facilitate the development of housing for a growing workforce in transportation corridors that meets both economic and societal needs by utilizing the active involvement of the business sector and regional public and private alliances.

Strategy #1: Recruit broad-based Housing Action Team.

Objectives: 

  1. Create a balanced membership representing labor, environment, business, finance, government and regional alliance interests.
  2. Develop policy guidelines that will be adopted and advocated by a diverse coalition of organizations.

Date of Completion: May 1996

5.1.1 Action Date: January 1996 to May 1996
Action: Identify Action Team participants, building on existing membership, with particular emphasis on adding business community participants.

Strategy #2: Identify the parameters which define models for infill housing so that they can be used as a guide for individual projects.

Objectives:

  1. Identify the components of a model housing project within San Mateo County that will result in successful developments.
  2. Identify impediments to creating housing and educate, advocate and promote viable alternatives.

5.2.1 Action Date: January 1996 to May 1996
Action: Consultant makes presentation to Action Team on principles of infill development and urban design that would be important to identifying a model project.

Action: Action Team makes recommendation to EDAC on selection of a consultant, including proposed grant application.

5.2.3 Action Date: August 1996 to November 1996
Action: Work with consultant to use computer modeling to develop a model project. Work with the model to develop specific guidelines for housing that the Action Team could advocate and facilitate. The work with the model is also expected to raise issues with respect to zoning, density, finance, etc. that will require research.
