IV. HOUSEHOLD PROFILE
A. Type of Household
In 1990, there were a total of 241,914 households in San
Mateo County. According to ABAG projections, the number of households is expected to
grow by 3.8% by 1995 and by 9.2% by the year 2000.
Text Table 9 shows the number and percent of household
composition distributed by household or family type and by county subareas. Two
types of householders are distinguished: a family householder and a non-family or
non-related householder. A family householder is a householder living with one or more persons
related to him or her by birth, marriage, or adoption. The householder and all
persons in the household related to him or her are family members. A non-family
householder is a householder living alone or with non-relatives only.
