Between 1980 and 1990, changes in racial and ethnic composition of San Mateo County were significant; while the overall population increased 10.6%, the Asian/Pacific Islander population increased 83.8% and the Hispanic population increased 57.3%. The Black population decreased by 0.8% while the white population only increased by 0.3%
