Hugo Award Winners: Best Novel

The Hugo Award, also known as the Science Fiction Achievement Award, is given annually by the World Science Fiction Society (WSFS), as determined by nominations from and a popular vote of the membership of WSFS. The first year the Hugo's were awarded was 1953, in general, a Hugo Award given in a particular year is for work that appeared in the previous calendar year. Note, however, that the winners for 1946, 1951, and 1954 were retrospective awards given much later, in 1996, 2001, and 2004 respectively.
