Cincinnati Enquirer
: Running back Shaun Alexander, released April
22 by the Seahawks, will visit the Bengals on Sunday and Monday,
agent Jim Steiner confirmed to The Enquirer. Alexander grew up in
Florence and played at Boone County High School before going on to
the University of Alabama. He is an eight-year NFL veteran and
2005 league MVP.

: The Seahawks released former MVP Shaun Alexander, just
26 months after he signed a $62 million contract as the
franchise's cornerstone. Seahawks president Tim Ruskell said
Tuesday the team released Alexander unconditionally hours after
the running back passed a physical. It's been a rapid fall for the
30-year-old. When he signed that mammoth deal, he was coming off
an MVP season in 2005 and a Super Bowl appearance. Now he's
looking for work, coming off of two unimpressive and injury filled
seasons.

Tacoma News
: from the Seahawks Insider Blog.... OK, here is the
deal with Shaun Alexander. KJR's Softy Mahler was reporting that
Alexander is about to be let go. We ran into Mike Holmgren in the
parking lot of the practice facility as he was leaving, and he
confirmed that he did speak with Shaun today at the facility. He
did not disclose what was said. But he said unequivocably that
Shaun is not being released immediately. He said he could not be
released right now anyway because of his injury. He had surgery on
his wrist and is currently wearing a cast. When asked if Alexander
was going to be released at a later date, Holmgren deferred to Tim
Ruskell (which to me says "guilty"). So a little bit later,
Ruskell comes out to the parking lot to leave and we asked him
about Shaun. "Shaun Alexander has not been released," Ruskell
said. "What about the future?" we asked. "Shaun Alexander has not
been released," Ruskell said. Holmgren said he also met with Mo
Morris and had a good conversation with him.

: Now that the Seahawks have signed Julius Jones, Shaun
Alexander wants to know what's going on. The 4-time defending NFC
West champions announced Monday they had signed Jones, the deposed
starting RB in Dallas, to a multiyear contract. Jones agreed to a
4-year deal worth around $3 million a year, according to
ESPN
. The
contract is similar to the five-year, $14 million contract reached
with RB T.J. Duckett. It is also the 2nd RB Seattle has signed in
the last week, after Duckett. Two reasons for Alexander to worry.
Jim Steiner, the agent for the 2005 league MVP, told The AP on
Monday evening that he will meet with Seahawks executives about
what future - if any - Alexander has in Seattle.

: The end of the Seahawks' season was more painful than
originally thought. The team announced Thursday that Shaun
Alexander had surgery this week to mend the left wrist the 2005
league MVP broke in Week 1. Five teammates also had procedures to
repair injuries sustained during Seattle's run to its fourth
consecutive NFC West title. Defensive end Patrick Kerney and left
tackle Walter Jones, both All-Pro players, plus leading receiver
Deion Branch and starting center Chris Spencer are next up for
surgery.

AP reports on Shaun Alexander: When he has been on the bench,
which has been far more than normal this season, Shaun Alexander
has usually been a big cheerleader for the Seahawks. He's often
the first one off the sidelines to greet players after big plays.
He has raced down the sidelines and into the end zone to greet
teammates who just scored. Coach Mike Holmgren marvels at how the
league MVP of two seasons ago has handled being demoted for the
first time since he got Seattle's starting running back job in
2001. He's now in a shared lead role with Maurice Morris, his
backup for five seasons before this one. This new tandem
arrangement, which will continue Saturday in the NFC wild-card
playoff game against the Redskins, began six weeks ago.

Tacoma New: Seahawks RB Shaun Alexander sustained a minor
rib injury, though his explanation was "it's just
football." He brought up the point that they lost their
season finale two years ago and "ended up in a happy
place," so this outcome has no bearing on the playoffs.

Seattle Times
: Seahawks HC Holmgren was aware that running back
Shaun Alexander was close to the NFL season rushing touchdowns
record in 2005, and he called plays to help Alexander break it on
the final Sunday at Green Bay.

reports: Seahawks RB Shaun Alexander (wrist) is ready
to start. The Seahawks have won the NFC West Division Title
and the No 3 seed. Other than staying sharp, they have
little to play for Sunday. Since the No 3 seed plays the
first week in January, Seattle could certainly use this
week to rest up some.

AP reports: After missing the previous three games with a sprained
knee, Seahawks RB Shaun Alexander returned last week, at a time
when the Seahawks (8-4) were rolling with three straight wins and
Maurice Morris proving again to be more than just an adequate
backup. As expected, Alexander's return took away carries from
Morris, but the duo combined for 129 yards rushing and a pair of
touchdowns in Seattle's 28-24 win in Philadelphia. That win set
the stage for this week, when a win over Arizona on Sunday will
wrap up Seattle's fourth straight NFC West title. "People are just
now getting to see the stuff that we already know, that Mo is
super talented," Alexander said. "So we're going to do what we
always done, which is put ourselves in a chance to win. That's
what we're all about."

Seattle Post Intelligencer
: Preliminary test results are
encouraging for the experimental treatment -- "Backfield by
Committee" -- the Seahawks are using to heal their running
game. The numbers were certainly respectable. The Seahawks rushed
for 135 yards -- 40 more than their season average -- in their 28-
24 victory over the Eagles, whose run defense entered the game
giving up only 93 per contest. Shaun Alexander, who had missed the
previous three games with a sprained knee and a bruised
reputation, turned in a respectable 65 yards on 20 carries with a
touchdown and a long run of 16 yards. Maurice Morris, who raised a
few eyebrows by hitting holes quicker and harder than the former
NFL MVP, had just five carries, but his 45-yard touchdown run
gave the Seahawks their final, game-winning tally.
